Feature overview
Goals
The aim of the SMS Security Profile feature is to provide the ability to control the sending and receiving of SMS messages based on the Security Profile and its White- and Blacklist content.
Additionally, the aim is to trigger an automation rule upon receiving a Kafka notification when the result of the Security Profile check is to block service.
Out of scope
Validation of the entries in the White- and Blacklist are valid entries and do not conflict or contradict each other.
Functionality of the feature
SMS Security Profiles allow or block incoming or outgoing SMS by referencing the MSISDN with the Access List of the White-/Blacklist.
Restrictions can be determined from Whitelist, Blacklist, or both, and service will be allowed or blocked based on whether the Security Profile has a Whitelist, a Blacklist, or both defined, and the content of these lists.
For SMS, the Security Policy defines which numbers/shortcodes the SIM can send/receive SMS messages to/from:
MO White- and Blacklists define the numbers/shortcodes the SIM can send messages to, and
MT White- and Blacklists define the numbers/shortcodes the SIM can receive messages from.
SMS Security Profiles will only be checked for SMS events.
Note:
The above statement assumes that the Service Profile assigned to the SIM allows MO and/or MT SMS.
International barring will be achieved through the Whitelist of the Security Profile only allowing Voice call from and to the home country.
Since not every SIM and/or Account requires a Security Profile, all SIMs and/or Accounts that do not have a Security Profile assigned are allowed to send and receive SMS without any restrictions.
Note:
Even though the SIM and/or Account does not have a Security Profile assigned, it is subject to the assigned Service Profile, Roaming Profile, Price Plan, etc., which can also lead to restrictions in regards to sending and receiving SMS.
