Feature overview

Goals

The aim of the Purge SIM feature is to provide capabilities to remove one or many UNASSIGNED SIMs from the HLR, and to release IMSIs and MSISDNs for reuse after purging SIM Cards.

Out of scope

  • Purging of Multi-IMSI or eSIMs

  • Direct purging of SIM Cards assigned to an Account (i.e. in Resource Status ASSIGNED)

Functionality of the feature

The Purge SIM tool allows the CMP SIM records to be updated after SIMs have been purged from the network, e.g. HLR. Note that purging directly from Resource Status OPERATOR INVENTORY is not supported, only SIMs that have been assigned to an Account, then later unassigned can be purged in CMP.

SIM related resources (ICCID, IMSI, and MSISDN) will be never deleted from CMP. The removal of the related IMSI in the HLR is a manual process that will not be triggered automatically via CMP.

Depending on CMP configuration, if the MSISDN/IMSI has not been released from a SIM at an earlier stage in the lifecycle, it will be released on purge. MSISDN/IMSI will be released into the related MSISDN/IMSI Pool and can be reused once the MSISDN/IMSI has been also released in the HLR and the predefined quarantine period has passed.

No quarantine period is required for IP Addresses released from PURGED SIM Cards, hence the related IP Addresses are available for reuse with other SIMs.

The SIM Purge process can be triggered by the GUI or via API. The processing will support individual SIMs and batch processing (CSV input file listing SIMs).

SIM Purge File

The minimum detail in a SIM Purge file is ICCID.
